Getting Help with Grief

Initial Discovery of the Suicide:
  • Remember to breathe!
  • Have your loved ones come to support you
  • If you feel like you're going to go out of control, call your doctor for medication
    • Make sure you tell your doctor what other medications you are taking
  • Do not act on the urge to join your deceased loved one. (That crossed my mind many times.  I just wanted to go get Jeff and bring him back)
  • Realize: YOU ARE IN SHOCK
    • Shock lasts anywhere from a week to a year. Everyone comes out of it in their own time
  • Move slowly and be careful of how you move. (I jumped in the shower and as I was later drying my hair my finger went right through the back of the hair dryer.  I was holding it so tight and was unaware how upset I actually was.  Blood everywhere! I didn't even realize what had happened until I SAW the blood! Just be careful is all I am saying.)
  • Remember, this is going to fucking hurt and it will for a long time.
    • There are coping skills you CAN acquire to deal with the days when the freight train runs right through you.
  • You may be shredded now, and if you get insanely angry make sure to NOT harm others or yourself through the anger
